Tomas is a clinical psychologist at COVA Psychology, with experience in treating a wide range of mental health conditions. He became a clinical psychologist because he is deeply interested in how people see, feel and behave in the world. He enjoys helping people better understand themselves and others, and to become more engaged with, and resilient to, life’s challenges.
Tomas has worked in a range of mental health and community settings, including public and private hospital systems, and sports organisations. These experiences have helped him to quickly determine and deliver effective and tailored psychological treatment to those in need.
In his spare time, he likes to cook up a storm, read crime fiction (Harry Bosch or Jack Reacher) or go on a bush walk.
Tomas explains his approach to treatment; A “therapeutic approach” is a helpful scientific-evidence based and flexible structure with which to view the world and guide therapy sessions. Often when people come to see a psychologist, they may be feeling overwhelmed or feel that areas of their life are in chaos. The therapeutic approach helps people start to make sense of that chaos, and move forward. Each person is different and unique, and as such, together we will tailor the therapeutic approach to you. He has expertise in a range of therapeutic methods, and applies them as required.

He has treated a range of problems using treatment approaches that are classified as cognitive behavioural therapy.
While previously working in the public and private hospital systems, starting at Rozelle Hospital he worked with acutely unwell patients, and a psychiatric rehabilitation unit where he designed a psychiatric rehabilitation model of care and trained staff to implement it. At St Vincent’sHospital Joe provided psychological treatment, including cognitive behavioural therapy, to medical inpatients and outpatients, and also treated patients inthe psychiatric unit.

Joe deals with a range ofproblems using goal directed therapy which is targeted cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), including depression, anxiety conditions, work-place stress, anger, assertiveness, self-esteem, relationship conflict, and high school issues.
